PORTLAND, Ore., Sept. 17, 2019 /Christian Newswire/ -- After 10 years of producing the contemporary music supplement Choose Christ, OCP sets its sights on a new, complete resource. For liturgical year 2020, OCP will release their Choose Christ Missal, offering all of the benefits of their other missals, with a more contemporary repertoire.
Updated annually, the missal will feature songs from popular Catholic artists like Steve Angrisano, Josh Blakesley, Sarah Hart, Matt Maher and Curtis Stephan. It can serve as a parish's sole resource or as a contemporary complement to missals and hymnals that a parish may already have. While much of the music in Choose Christ Missal may have a modern, updated sound, it is nevertheless liturgically appropriate and ready to serve Catholic communities across the country. Parishioners will also find plenty of traditional and multigenerational favorites from composers Bernadette Farrell, Bob Hurd and Dan Schutte, along with some Latin chant.
The resource boasts 400 songs, 5 Mass settings, including Sarah Hart's new Mass of St. Mary Magdalene, readings for Sundays and holy days, along with psalms and Gospel Acclamations from OCP's contemporary psalter, Spirit & Psalm. It also contains the Order of Mass, music for solemnities and feasts, and ritual prayer.
OCP Publisher Wade Wisler states, "The goal of the Choose Christ Missal is to provide the music of our time that embodies the Word of God, makes hearts resonate, and stirs full participation in the Eucharist."
OCP artist Sarah Hart adds, "The Choose Christ resource is for any parish, anywhere, who embraces and loves beautiful music. These songs have been so carefully chosen to be songs that are very embraceable and singable for the community."
The missal is available for subscription as well as individual purchase. For parish musicians, piano and guitar accompaniments are available in both print and digital formats, and recordings of every song are available in mp3 format, making the music easier to learn and manage.
