DENVER, Feb. 5 /Christian Newswire/ -- MOPS International President Naomi Cramer Overton, moms and those who care about them begin a prayer-and-fasting challenge today to move toward a world where No Mom is Alone. MOPS, Mothers of Preschoolers, yearns to see each mom in real community that prevent the dangers of isolation and strengthens them, their kids, marriages, and extended families.
"About 3 million U.S. women will become moms this year; six will give birth while you read this. And so many are alone, feeling isolated," says MOPS President Naomi Cramer Overton. "Together, as part of the No Mom Alone fasting challenge, we'll make space to hear how God calls us to be loved, to love, and to live in a way where it's truer that 'no mom is alone'."
The No Mom Alone challenge occurs the first Friday for six months, February 5th through July 2nd. Visit www.mops.org/fasting for more information and resources. Be sure to check with your health care provider before undertaking a fast. To receive fasting updates, email prayer@mops.org; subject line "Resolution."
One idea of the fast is to replace hunger with a desire to befriend moms in our communities. "For today, when you feel hungry for whatever it is you are fasting from, live nourished by God's love and find a way to show another mom that love."
Overton was inspired by the story of Esther in the Bible, who invited others to fast for the good of a whole nation. "As we welcome the largest mom-generation in U.S. history, and an increasingly isolated one, we want each mom to have friends who accept her for who she is and who will be there for her, as Jesus told us to do for each other."
MOPS moms at the organization's most recent Convention resonated with similar words sung by Christy Nockels. Lyrics from the song Hosanna encourage this generation to rise up with selfless faith, to be stirred as we seek and pray.
