Judge Roy Moore and Foundation for Moral Law -- Call for Reversal of National Cemetery Administration's New Atheistic Flag-Folding Rule

MEDIA ADVISORY, October 30 /Christian Newswire/ -- Former Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore and the Foundation for Moral Law call on the National Cemetery Administration and the Department of Veterans Affairs and President George W. Bush, who has executive authority over these agencies, to immediately reverse the new rule requiring military funeral volunteers to stop reciting the significance of each fold of the American flag. The flag-folding recitation contains references to the Pledge of Allegiance, our National Motto ("In God We Trust"), and several other references to faith and God. But supposedly because of one complaint concerning one of the 13 recitations, the NCA has now banned all flag-folding recitations at all veterans' funerals even though "volunteers" perform the traditional flag-folding recitation at the request of the family of the deceased.
Judge Moore said, "This is yet another inexcusable attempt to exclude any reference to God from our public affairs. As a Vietnam veteran and a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, I know that our veterans for the past two centuries have fought, bled, and died to preserve the faith and religious freedom upon which our Nation was founded. On June 6, 1944, President Franklin D. Roosevelt announced the D-Day invasion of Normandy and prayed, 'Almighty God: Our sons, pride of our nation, this day have set upon a mighty endeavor, a struggle to preserve our Republic, our religion, and our civilization, and to set free a suffering humanity.' Our servicemen do not fight for liberty around the world only to come home to the promise of a censored, religion-free flag-folding burial service—one only an atheist would love."
Judge Moore continued, "The National Cemetery Administration, a division of the Department of Veterans Affairs is under the control and authority of the Executive Branch of government and President George W. Bush."
"I call upon the President to reign in these out-of-control bureaucrats, as did his predecessor, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and recognize the courage and sacrifice of millions of veterans who have served our Country, and fought and died to preserve our faith in Almighty God."
Judge Moore joined others who have called for resistance to the new silent flag folding rule, saying "in the event this new policy is not reversed, I would urge veterans and their families who wish to have the flag-folding recitation at their funerals to simply ignore this ridiculous new edict."
