LOS GATOS, Calif., Nov. 16 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Bible Works released today a service on Twitter that allows people to receive the Bible via texts or tweets throughout the day. Lead developer Peter Coad says people can sign up to receive the New Testament (1 verse/hr), Old Testament (3 verses/hr), or the entire Bible (4 verses/hr). The new site allows people to choose from 100 different versions of the Bible and 49 different languages. The Web address is oi.com. It is expected people will receive the entire Bible via texts or tweets in 11 months.

John Andersen of World Bible Translation Center said, "Ever since the invention of the printing press, God has been working to put His Word into every hand and heart. Now, like never before, we are nearing fulfillment of that divine plan. Every mobile phone becomes an evangelist."

The service is provided by the U.S.-based The Bible Works, the organization that also produces the in-depth Bible study site Great Treasures (greattreasures.org), and a lite edition on Facebook, called the "Bible" app (facebook.com/greattreasure). Coad calls the new service and the site "theologically neutral safe havens for studying the Scriptures."

The service runs on a patent-pending platform developed by Study Network (the platform prepares, schedules, and delivers serialized published works, considered an industry first). The Bible Works uses the platform to prepare, schedule, and deliver verses to 254 Scripture-tweeting Twitter accounts. A Web site guides users in selecting which account to follow.

Coad built and sold TogetherSoft (a company he cofounded in 1999) in January 2003 to Borland Software. Before that, he built a small consulting firm, authored six software-design books, and became one of the world's most widely experienced model builders, focusing on building competitive advantage for clients. Now Coad is the lead developer at The Bible Works and at Study Network.

The Bible Works is a U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit, whose mission is helping ministers make Christ known. The organization is located in Los Gatos, California (thebibleworks.org).

Study Network is a for-profit corporation, whose mission is delivering published works in ways that better fit modern readers. The privately held startup is located in Los Gatos, California (
