'Together in God's Mission of Mercy' -- Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers Celebrates Jubilee Year of Mercy

Christian Newswire/ -- "Together in God's Mission of Mercy" is a new communiqué of the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers that brings together Pope Francis' call for a Jubilee Year of Mercy in the Catholic Church with Maryknoll's 104 years of mission work in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the U.S.
During the Jubilee Year of Mercy, all Catholics, as missionary disciples, will proclaim God's love and mercy. From December 8, 2015, the 50th anniversary of the closing of the Second Vatican Council, through November 20, 2016, the end of the liturgical year and Feast of Christ the King, the Catholic Church around the world will celebrate this jubilee year and all Catholics will receive a special blessing and pardon from God.
Maryknoll's Celebration
The Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers will celebrate the Jubilee Year of Mercy through the publication of magazine and online articles, the introduction of new titles from Orbis Books, and with prayer and mission programs around the world.
Mercy-themed articles will appear in "Maryknoll" magazine and "Revista Maryknoll." An article in the January/February 2016 issues will recall the acts of mercy by Father Vincent R. Capodanno, M.M., of Staten Island, New York. As a chaplain, Father Capodanno was killed by a sniper in Vietnam as he served dying American soldiers on the battlefield.
Catholics are encouraged to share their examples of personal mercy moments with Maryknoll's magazines. All submissions will be reviewed and select mercy moments will be published throughout the jubilee year. Mercy moments also can be posted to a special Maryknoll Mercy Moments web page:

Writers can submit mercy moments that they have witnessed, acts of mercy that they have offered to others, or moments when someone has provided them with an act of kindness. Many of the mercy moments will be shared by the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers through Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin and displayed in the Maryknoll Museum of Living Mission at the Maryknoll Mission Center in New York.
Outreach to Partners in Mission
Prayer events, parish meetings, conferences, mission immersion trips, and education and catechist programs within Maryknoll communities will celebrate the Jubilee Year of Mercy. Acts of mercy also will be featured in Maryknoll's outreach to its partners in mission through monthly Journey of Faith email reflections, mission appeals and prayer cards.
Orbis Books, the publishing division of the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers, will introduce several new titles related to mercy during 2016. Orbis Books titles will include "Jesus and the Prodigal Son" by Brian Pierce, OP, a Dominican priest and theologian based in Rome; "Morning Homilies III" by Pope Francis; "The Way of Mercy" edited by Christine M. Bochen of Nazareth College in Rochester, New York, and that includes Pope Francis's text announcing the Jubilee Year of Mercy; "On Care for Our Common Home: Laudato Si'" with the text of Pope Francis' encyclical and commentary by Irish Columban Father Sean McDonough; and "I Believe by Pope Francis" (writings about the creed).
