SEATTLE, Aug. 31 /Christian Newswire/ – The former number two man at pop-culture review site HollywoodJesus.com has established a new partnership with Gospelcom.net. As Senior Editor for Hollywood Jesus, Greg Wright developed event-movie coverage that helped the site become part of a major shift in Hollywood studio relations with Christian media. With new partners coming on board to assist site founder David Bruce with a relaunch this summer, Wright took the opportunity to investigate new journalistic opportunities. Last week, Wright signed a partnership agreement with Gospelcom to develop a new website devoted to Christian film criticism. Aiming for a November launch, “Past the Popcorn” will offer critical essays, interviews, and editorials examining the roles that directors, producers, and screenwriters play in shaping cinematic entertainment.
After joining Hollywood Jesus as David Bruce’s personal editor in 1999, Greg Wright oversaw coverage of fantasy blockbusters The Lord of the Rings and The Chronicles of Narnia, developing an event-coverage strategy that drove an immense amount of web traffic to Hollywood Jesus. Wright’s “Narnia News Blog,” co-developed with his wife Jenn, became a go-to resource for fans and scholars alike. By the time Andrew Adamson’s blockbuster film had been released, comments from the Wrights and other Hollywood Jesus staffers had appeared in hundreds of publications around the world.
During his tenure with Hollywood Jesus, Wright also shepherded online discussions about The Passion of the Christ and The Da Vinci Code. In his final editorial assignment with the site, he provided blogging and forum administration services as part of Grace Hill Media’s partnership with Sony Pictures, “The DaVinci Dialogue.” This partnership, a sign of the site’s growing influence in shaping public discourse regarding Hollywood films, ultimately led to new backing for David Bruce’s brainchild, and a serious makeover for the site.
Wright, whose teaching responsibilities as Writer in Residence at Puget Sound Christian College include courses on literature and film, was grateful for the editorial relief that the relaunch provided. While continuing to write for Hollywood Jesus, he’s excited about the opportunity to helm new efforts aimed at educating Christian audiences about the art of filmmaking.
