Leading Religious Newswire Defends Cartoon of Bomb-Making Terrorists

Contact: Christian Newswire, 202-546-0054

WASHINGTON, Feb. 27, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ The following statement is released by Gary McCullough:

As director of Christian Newswire, I stand with the New York Post and Sean Delonas and support their right to express an opinion despite the fact that the cartoon has drawn condemnation from the pro-radical Islamic group, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).

The cartoon by Sean Delonas was published Friday in the New York Post and shows the turban-wearing terrorists preparing bombs and weapons in an apartment, with an NYPD vehicle in the street. One of the terrorists is depicted on the phone with The Associated Press news agency, and says: "Hello, AP Press?. . .I'd like to register a complaint against the N.Y.P.D. for spying on us."

In 2006, and again in January of 2010, Christian Newswire was criticized for publishing the controversial Muhammad cartoons. Christian Newswire was the only US based newswire to publish the cartoons. A collection of cartoons is available, click for other cartoons

Despite receiving numerous threats as a result to our publishing the Muhammad cartoons in 2010 and in 2006, the basis for that decision remains the same today. We also published the cartoons of Lars Vilks in 2007 after a reward was offered for his murder. Lars Vilks was forced to dodge eggs thrown by angry audience members while giving a lecture about his Mohammad cartoons and free expression at the University of Karlstad on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012.

"As I said in 2006, I repeat now; I for one am not willing to go one inch down the road that ends with the media publishing only that which Muhammad would approve." -- Gary McCullough
