Christian Newswire/ -- The Board of Directors of MAP International, a Christian global health organization, announces the resignation of its long-time president and CEO, Michael J. Nyenhuis and the launch of an international search for Mr. Nyenhuis' replacement.
Mr. Nyenhuis will depart MAP at the end of January after nearly 19 years of service, the last 14 as president and CEO. He leaves to become president and CEO of AmeriCares, in Stamford, CT.
"We are sad to see Michael go and grateful for the excellent leadership he has provided during his tenure as CEO," said Immanuel Thangaraj, chairman of the MAP Board. "We understand his desire to take this next step in his professional life and pray for his success in this new endeavor. At the same time, we are excited to identify the next leader who will guide us to even greater heights."
During Mr. Nyenhuis' tenure, MAP significantly expanded its global medical supply distribution program, built a new state-of-the-art global distribution center, doubled the number of country field offices, implemented innovative community health programs, played a key role in eradicating a disease in West Africa, built and expanded new networks and alliances, and was consistently ranked among the nation's most effective and efficient charities.

The Board has hired the international search firm Russell Reynolds Associates to help conduct a search for the next leader. Russell Reynolds has extensive experience recruiting executive leadership in both the relief and development and faith-based sectors.
The Board has appointed Chok-Pin Foo, a former MAP board member who served as treasurer, finance committee chair and member of the executive committee, as Interim CEO. Mr. Foo spent more than 10 years in Microsoft Corporation's finance department and served nine years on the MAP board until his term expired in March of 2013. During his service, he helped guide MAP through an extended period of growth and also through the complexities of the global recession.
"Chok-Pin brings an extensive knowledge of the organization to this new role," Mr. Thangaraj said. "He has visited most of MAP's offices around the world, is well known and respected by the staff and has the trust of the Board. He will provide the continuity, stability and forward momentum we need during this important period in our history."
Mr. Foo said the chance to return to MAP in this role is a great privilege.
