WASHINGTON, May 26, 2021 /Christian Newswire/ -- Stanton Public Policy Center and Purple Sash Revolution will be holding a demonstration on Thursday, May 27, at 10:00 AM in Lafayette Park, across from the White House, in support of Uighur women and to call for the Biden Administration to boycott the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing.
Stanton Public Policy Center is a women's advocacy and educational group that works on issues of human rights and justice which empower and inspire women. It is affiliated with Stanton Healthcare which has life-affirming women's health clinics in America and internationally.
The Chinese Communist Party has been systematically targeting Uighur Muslim women through forced pregnancy checks, medication that stops menstruation, forced abortions, surgical sterilizations, rape and genocide.
As part of their global campaign to raise awareness of the oppression and persecution of Uighur women, Stanton Public Policy center is calling for President Biden to boycott the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing as a way to stand in solidarity with the Uighurs.
Brandi Swindell is the Founder and CEO of Stanton Public Policy Center. Ms. Swindell has a long history of speaking out for human rights and justice in China; she led a boycott of the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympic Games and organized peaceful protests in Tiananmen Square during the Olympics.
For this courageous stand, Chinese government officials arrested Ms. Swindell, threatened her with a 6-month prison sentence, deported her to the United States and later banned her from China.
Regarding the global campaign in support of Uighur women and call for an Olympic boycott, Ms. Swindell comments:
"The world is seeing unprecedented actions by the Chinese government against Uighur women. They are facing forced pregnancy checks, medication that stops their menstruation, forced abortions, surgical sterilizations, rape and genocide. It is imperative America and the free nations of the world publicly confront these attacks on Uighur women.
"In response to these horrific atrocities, Stanton Public Policy Center is launching a worldwide campaign to stand in solidarity with Uighur women and draw international attention to their plight. A first step in our efforts is asking President Biden to call for a boycott of the 2022 Beijing Olympic Games. It is especially important for women in America to realize the struggle for equality and justice for women is a global one."
Danielle Versluys, Chief Operations Officer for Stanton Public Policy Center, first visited China as a teen and worked with humanitarian aid workers in Hong Kong and mainland China. Mrs. Versluys states:
"It is imperative that the United States government takes a principled stand against China's reign of terror over the Uighur people. President Biden, we call upon your administration to denounce the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing as a farce. There should be no cooperation or amicable games with a nation which provably targets innocent Uighur women for forced abortion, forced sterilization, and other horrific human rights abuses."
Rev. Patrick Mahoney, Chief Strategy Officer for Stanton Public Policy Center, has a 40-year history of fighting for human rights and freedom in China. He was also arrested during the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympic Games and is banned from China for his outspoken stand for human rights. He recently was embedded with Hong Kong University students in their heroic struggle for democracy during the "Siege of PolyU."
Rev. Mahoney adds:
"The world can no longer be silent or indifferent to the oppression, violence and persecution of Uighur women. Their struggle and pain must become ours. In a very real sense, 'We are all Uighurs.' As Stanton Public Policy Center launches this global campaign in support of Uighur women, we recognize America must take a leading role.
"A powerful first step would be President Biden refusing to send our nation's Olympic athletes to the 2022 Beijing Olympic Games. How could we possibly participate in a cherished international event where the host country is supporting genocide against Uighur women? America's involvement would only embolden the Chinese Communist Party in these destructive and violent attacks against women."
