MEDIA ADVISORY, Dec. 10, 2010 /Christian Newswire/ -- Achieving equality for LGBT people is Faith In America's primary goal. Viewing religion-based bigotry as its "biggest barrier," the North Carolina based nonprofit released a compelling report last October. Ultimately, it aims to guide society in responding effectively to religious objections over homosexuality. Ironically, the report attempts to teach the world how to love the church.
"Our only hope in stopping them is to challenge religion-based bigotry clearly, thoughtfully and publicly," the report reads.
Ex-gay, Christian Author, K. Godfrey Easter, agrees with parts of FIA's report, particularly that the needless suffering of LGBT victims is "...often justified by religious teachings." But he's convinced that the report's attempt to present homosexuality as un-sinful behavior will stifle FIA's efforts.
Still, FIA's distinguished board of disgruntled religious leaders, journalists, actors, activists, and attorneys are poised to fight over equal LGBT rights to marry or adopt. The recent escalation in sexual scandals involving mainstream Christian pulpits, coupled with erroneous religious teaching and more, provides FIA sufficient arsenal with which to engage in battle.
Most recently, prominent television pastor, Bishop Eddie L. Long of Atlanta, Georgia, was publicly accused of years of sexual misconduct involving male, teenage members of his mega Baptist congregation. Days later, Bishop Jim Swilley, pastor of Church in the Now also in Georgia, 'came out' to his congregation and recorded the service.
From years of research, FIA's report reflects that, "If a person believes sexual orientation is a part of how you are created," then that person is 70% more likely to favor of LGBT rights. But if the person believes that it's a choice then they’re 70% are more likely to oppose LGBT rights. But, Easter's new, two-part series on God and same-gender attraction literally destroys FIA's 70% theory.
In "Opposites (Part I): Spiritually Understanding Same-Gender Attraction," the former, gay-Christian author admits he was born gay and that he's still attracted to men. But, he has also remained contently ex-gay for going on six years now. "Wrestling with the flesh is part of the walk," he testifies.
In just the few short hours it takes to read part-one Christian leadership can gain access to empowering insight into spiritually understanding God in relation to homosexuality and same-gender attraction. In Opposites, Easter writes, "By the grace of God and Christ on my side, being gay is who I was."
