ORLANDO, Fla., Sept. 19 /Christian Newswire/ -- Honoring lives dedicated to providing biblically-based teaching, Wycliffe Bible Translators has selected Chuck and Cynthia Swindoll as the recipients of the organization's Bill Bright Scripture Impact Award. The couple will receive the award at a Sept. 25 dinner in Orlando.
The Bill Bright Scripture Impact Award was established by Wycliffe to recognize individuals whose contributions to Bible translation, literacy and Scripture proclamation reflect that of the late Campus Crusade for Christ founder, Dr. Bill Bright.
The Swindolls have devoted more than five decades of their lives to communicating practical, biblical truth. Chuck Swindoll currently serves as the host of the radio broadcast ministry Insight for Living, in leadership at Dallas Theological Seminary, and as pastor of Stonebriar Community Church in Frisco, Texas, which he founded in 1998.
Cynthia Swindoll serves as president of her husband's broadcast ministry. Insight for Living now airs in every major Christian radio market in all 50 U.S. states and on more than 2,100 outlets worldwide. Launched in 1979, the program is currently broadcast in several languages and boasts a large and growing webcast and podcast audience.
According to Vonette Bright, co-founder of Campus Crusade for Christ and widow of Bill Bright, the Swindolls have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the practical communication and application of the Bible and an unwavering devotion to seeing lives transformed by the Gospel.
"Chuck and Cynthia Swindoll have endeavored in their ministries to make the Bible personal, understandable and relevant in the lives of people who have long had access to God's Word in their own language," said Bright. "They have motivated countless Christians to spread the Scriptures to every tongue and every nation—the very heart of Wycliffe's mission."
According to Bob Creson, president of Wycliffe Bible Translators USA, Chuck and Cynthia Swindoll have, through their ministries, helped inspire generations of Christians with a passion reading and applying God's Word to their lives.
"The Swindolls' love for God and His Word is reflected in their life-long commitment of making the Scriptures come alive for millions," said Creson. "Relevant and practical in their approach, the Holy Spirit has used Chuck and Cynthia to implant the Scriptures into the hearts, minds and lives of readers and listeners in the U.S. and around the world. It is truly Wycliffe Bible Translators' privilege to be able to honor both Chuck and Cynthia as people God has used to encourage and grow His Church."
The Bill Bright Scripture Impact Award dinner will be held Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 5:30 p.m. ET at the WordSpring Discovery Center at 11221 John Wycliffe Blvd. in Orlando, Fla. Media are invited to attend.
