WASHINGTON, March 21 /Christian Newswire/ -- The vigil, organized by the Christian Defense Coalition and Faith and Action, will be held on Sunday, March 21, at 4:45 P.M.
A news conference will be held at 4:30 P.M. to discuss the response of the pro-life and faith community regarding the outcome of this historic health care vote.
The Christian Defense Coalition has secured the only permit for the Capitol Building while the vote is taking place.
Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition, states,
"Our Christian faith teaches us to care for the poor, reach out to the needy and stand for the defenseless and embrace social justice. The current health care legislation allows for public funds to be used for abortions which is a gross betrayal of our faith and human rights.
"As people of faith, we do not have to stand on the sidelines as events unfold around us. Through prayer and fasting we can actually see God change and shape history.
"We are gathering to pray and ask God to protect America's children and we are also standing as a prophetic witness against the crushing and diminishing of innocent human life."
Rev. Rob Schenck, Executive Director of Faith and Action, adds
"If ever Americans needed to pray, it is now. This health care legislation will affect every individual and every family. Our country has always called on God's help during times of crisis, and this is a crisis for our nation.
"Prayer is never a last resort; it should always be our first resort. This prayer meeting during the final vote on health care is the most important thing that will happen at the US Capitol on Sunday afternoon."
