ROCKFORD, Ill., Nov. 5, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Howard Center for Family, Religion, & Society is pleased to announce the publication of the fall 2012 issue of The Family in America, the journal that brings the best of hard-hitting family policy research, clear-sighted analysis, and bold arguments to a nation hit by the effects of family breakdown.

This issue's theme is "The Family and Poverty" and covers the ways in which our nation's befuddled economic policy has harmed the life of the natural family. Writing on this crucial theme are, among others, Drs. Ryan C. MacPherson and Bryce J. Christensen, both members of The Family in America's new editorial team. Dr. MacPherson, of Bethany Lutheran College, addresses "Homeownership and Public Policy: What Helps, and What Hinders, the American Dream." MacPherson documents the demise of the modern home from thriving cottage industry to investment opportunity and "suburban dormitory," and suggests responsible public policy that would encourage productive homes once again. Dr. Christensen, of Southern Utah University, discusses how illegal immigration has rushed to fill the economic vacuum left by shrinking American families in "Border Crossings: How the Erosion of American Family Life Fuels Illegal Immigration." Americans' rejection of the natural laws governing marriage and childbearing, he argues, has led to our inability to uphold man-made laws governing immigration. Dr. Allan C. Carlson, editor of The Family in America, visiting professor of history at Hillsdale College, and International Secretary of World Congress of Families, revisits distributism in "Hilaire Belloc's The Servile State: A Centenary Reflection." Belloc is just as relevant today as he was 100 years ago, and the 2008 financial crisis underscored American subservience to a financial system upheld by government fiat and devoted to the security of the ownership classes rather than the liberty of all.

In addition, Robert W. Patterson, former editor of the journal, makes bold recommendations that highlight what the Republicans neglect in "The Missing Plank of the GOP Platform: Reclaiming Family-Wage Jobs in an Age of Globalization." Romney's proposed tax plans, Patterson writes, are only a continuation of a policy that has long boded ill for the Republican Party, a plan that delivers much to the upper-middle class but little to the working and middle classes.

The fall issue also features reviews of Mary Eberstadt's Adam and Eve after the Pill: Paradoxes of the Sexual Revolution and Bart Fauser's and Paul Devroey's Baby-Making: What the New Reproductive Treatments Mean for Families and Society. The issue closes with the ever-powerful "New Research" section, which highlights academic research in the fields of psychology, sociology, health, and others that supports the concept of the Natural Family as the basis for a strong society – even when the politically correct researchers themselves won't admit the implications of their work. Highlighting this issue's New Research is coverage of three articles in the July Social Science Research that debate the merits of the American Psychological Association's claim that children of same-sex couples are not disadvantaged in any significant way when compared with the children of heterosexual couples. Does a dedication to true research or enslavement to political correctness govern the APA?
