Christian Newswire/ -- This is a book written by a man who came to terms with losing the one thing he loved most in life. After going through some personal turmoil, the author discovered that finding God comes from within.
This is a story about an ex-boxer's search for inner peace and a sense of fulfillment in our high pressure, loud, fast moving world. A former amateur boxer realizes that his self-worth is not measured by how many punches he can give or take or media headlines and public praise. In his journey, he discovers that real self-worth is defined by his relationship with God.
In March of 1993, at the Golden Gloves semi finals in Boyle Heights, California, we see amateur Boxer Samuel Bartoli sitting on a bench in a gymnasium ready to fight an opponent whom he has defeated twice in the past. His opponent is a young black middleweight who fights out of the Long Beach Gym is carrying a large banner that reads, "Jesus Christ." As he passes Bartoli by he yells out, "Jesus!" This outburst caused Samuel to think about his relationship with the Lord. Samuel won the fight that night but that night Samuel began traveling down a whole new road.
Samuel’s career continues going forward although it takes a personal toll on his body. It causes him to have chronic headaches, slurred speech and impaired vision. On top of that there are cruel words from people about his condition but Bartoli continues to compete. He is a determined man because he is on a mission to make his mark in the squared circle. But there is a price to pay... The pressure of it all is much like a Demon haunting him constantly. It brings about feelings of depression, lack of self-worth and rips away at his confidence. This pushes Bartoli into another direction where he begins the most difficult fight of his life--Spiritual combat with the Devil. Bartoli's only defense against the Devil, the dark prince of all evil is -- Jesus Christ.
