MEDIA ADVISORY, Feb. 22 /Christian Newswire/ -- Despite speculation among conservative and Christian commentators, most in Jesusland will not be swayed by the yellow journalism of the New York Times, according to David Jeffers, author of Understanding Evangelicals: A Guide to Jesusland. "The majority of evangelicals are too media savvy to fall for the false allegations of Senator John McCain's purported romantic relationship with lobbyist Vicki Iseman."
Jeffers posted on his blog "Salt and Light" (http://davidjeffers.thevanguard.org) late Wednesday evening that the New York Times "were either grossly negligent in their duties as the watchmen of freedom or they purposely sat on this to wait until McCain secured the nomination so their beloved Democratic Party could regain the White House."
Jeffers also contends that those in Jesusland will not buy the sad explanation from the NY Times' executive editor Bill Keller. Jeffers would like to ask Mr. Keller if in fact the story "was a long time in the works," why the NY Times' opinion page on January 25, 2008 endorsed Senator McCain as the Republican nominee.
Jeffers asks, "If the NY Times had reason to believe that McCain was involved in a possible adulterous relationship, why did they state McCain was 'the best choice for the party's presidential nomination'?"
Although Jeffers previously had supported Fred Thompson, the Jesusland author is encouraging all evangelicals to support whoever the Republican nominee is because the Democratic Party platform is not pro-family and is weak on national defense.
"All the subjects I touch on in my book the Democrats are weak and although the Republican Party leaves much to be desired, evangelicals can make their voice heard loud and clear at not only the ballot box, but also by holding the elected officials accountable."
Jeffers' is exhorting all evangelicals to get out and vote Republican instead of staying home in protest. That would just be giving the NY Times the desired effect it is looking for in its latest unethical article.
