Star Will Be First Female African American Conservative Republican in Congress

LONG BEACH, Calif., Oct. 1 /Christian Newswire/ -- Conservative author and nationally-syndicated columnist Star Parker, continues to gain support in her bid to unseat incumbent Democrat Rep. Laura Richardson in California's 37th Congressional District. A November 2nd victory for Star would be historic -- not only would Star be the first African American Republican to unseat a sitting member of the extremely liberal Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), she would also be the first African American female Republican elected to the House.

Star's story and commitment to traditional values stands in contrast to Richardson's support of everything from abortion rights to homosexual marriage. Star's personal transformation from welfare dependent to conservative advocate began with her Christian conversion. Unlike many politicians, her life story also gives testimony to the genuineness of her faith.

Internal polling of California's 37th Congressional District, conducted by Public Opinion Strategies on July 19-22, 2010, reveals key weaknesses in this once secular stronghold:

• 2 out of 3 "Core Democrat" voters in CA-37 said they would consider voting for a Republican this election;
   
• Among Democrats, 33 percent believe it is time for a new representative from CA-37 in the Congress.
