PORTLAND, Ore./PITTSBURGH, Penn., July 23, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ -- OCP, the nation's leading publisher of Catholic worship resources will release its first English-language hymnal in nearly a decade at this year's National Pastoral Musicians' Conference July 23-27 in Pittsburgh, Penn.
Journeysongs, Third Edition, a permanent worship resource, was crafted to reflect the diverse, musical tastes of today's Catholic parish with over 850 songs and 9 Mass settings approved for use with the new translation of the Roman Missal.
Continuing its reputation of 'balance and stability' this latest edition blends music from the previous editions and OCP's Glory and Praise hymnal like songs from Bernadette Farrell, Bob Hurd, Michael Joncas, Carey Landry, Dan Schutte, the St. Louis Jesuits, Christopher Walker and more. Rounding out the updated repertoire are new selections from OCP's most popular resource, Breaking Bread, Glory and Praise and the contemporary songbook series, Spirit & Song.
Churches waiting to implement a permanent resource due to the the new translation of the Roman Missal, will find that the Mass settings in Journeysongs feature a variety of styles including traditional, contemporary, Latin chant and bilingual. Moreover, in a continued effort to be a partner to these Catholic communities, more than half the included Mass settings for the new Roman Missal have been adopted by Dioceses and Archdioceses across the country.
"People have asked us, why the wait?" says Eric Schumock, Director, Music Development and Outreach. "By releasing this hymnal 8 months after the transition to the new Roman Missal, we were able to incorporate feedback from parishes that had already tried various Mass settings. We were also able to meet the needs of those communities whose diocese had recommended use of a particular OCP Mass setting. We included those settings that were most successful in actual liturgical usage in order to create the most balanced, practical and permanent music worship resource possible."
In celebration of its debut, attendees of OCP's 2012 NPM showcase will receive a complimentary copy of Journeysongs, Third Edition.
