ENUMCLAW, Wash., Aug. 30 /Christian Newswire/ -- Author Carl Martin Cole's life and writings exemplify the meaning of extreme in his first book, "Bound Verse." A former hippie, devotee of Eastern mysticism, radical peace activist, and drug dealer, Cole's poems reflect the culmination of his lifelong search for knowledge and truth: his Christian faith.

"Life is often painful, difficult, and frustrating to us humans on many levels, and neither science nor mysticism nor drugs nor material wealth nor sensuality nor even romantic love offers any ultimate answers to our problems or doubts until and unless we learn to 'Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness.'"

Many of Cole's poems deal with philosophical and religious questions and issues such as the role of suffering in a Christian's life, and the dangers of subjectivism and moral relativism.

"Though not political in nature, my poetry book is provocative, and at times deliberately so. It scorns shallow, superficial Christians, arrogant humanists, and overly self-assured Christian apologists. It openly expresses feelings of despair and hopelessness. It ridicules not science itself, but scientism (the belief that ONLY science has all of the answers)."

In his hunt for knowledge, Carl has read more than 3,000 books on subjects ranging from Biblical archaeology to quantum physics, from paleontology to parapsychology. In his fifteen plus years as a college student he majored in geography, ancient history, economics, and political science.

Carl resides in Oak Park, Illinois and has done so for over four decades. He is currently a member of the Republican National Committee, has participated, through his wife, in the Daughters of the American Revolution, and is qualified for membership in both the SAR and the Order of the Crown of Charlemagne. Carl has an A.A. degree in Liberal Arts, a B.A. in Political Science, and has pursued postgraduate studies in the field of Education. His two favorite hobbies are genealogy and history.
