ENUMCLAW, Wash., April 6 /Christian Newswire/ -- Eleven years after an accident disabled David Leonardo, he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. "I thought my life was ending," he admits. But after the initial shock, he decided to look at the diagnosis as a new beginning in his life. He started therapy and signed up for training in computer programming. After receiving his degree, he held an excellent job for four years as a Systems Administrator.
"Then the MS worsened," he says, "and my doctor recommended that I go on disability." With family and friends to support him, David began to write about what it was like to live with the challenges of disability. His poetic meditations focused on maintaining a positive attitude, looking for the good in bad situations, and turning to the One who gives peace and strength. He firmly believes that fighting illness and sadness is a long road not to be traveled alone.
The author, who lives in Hamden, Connecticut, published his first book, "Inspiration for Peace and Strength" in 2000. It was an inspiration to many, including Kimberly Huff of Indianapolis, Indiana. Although she was not suffering from an illness when she read the book, the poems helped her deal with a very difficult time in her life. "David's words of inspiration have touched me in more ways than I can describe," she says.
David has written a sequel, "More Inspirations of Peace and Strength," with additional inspirational poems. "We are never truly at the end as long as we have breath in our lungs," he says. "When you think you are at the end, take a step back and look where you are going. In the end, it is always your choice." Although MS has settled in David's body, it has not conquered his spirit. His goal is to help others believe that all things are possible with the support of people around them.
