DEWEY BEACH, Delaware, May 4 /Christian Newswire/ -- Christine O'Donnell was chosen Saturday as the Republican candidate to challenge Joe Biden (D-DE) for Delaware's U.S. Senate seat this Fall. The Delaware Republican Party held its annual Convention in Dewey Beach, Delaware, on May 2nd and 3rd, 2008 at the 'Rusty Rudder's" Bay Center Convention Hall.
Christine O'Donnell won 60.7% of the vote of the Convention delegates in a vigorous contest with businessman Tim Smith. Delaware rules provide for a Party endorsement in May but then also permit a primary contest in the Fall. However, both O'Donnell and Smith agreed before the Convention to abide by the GOP's vote at the Convention as the final decision. O'Donnell thus becomes the Republican Party's nominee for United States Senate.
O'Donnell contends that Delaware is suffering from "Biden Fatigue" after Biden's 35 years in the U.S. Senate, and that Senator Biden has lost interest in Delaware. Biden was first elected in 1972 and has been in the Senate since 1973. He has announced plans to spend 2008 campaigning around the country against Republican Presidential candidate John McCain and many commentators suggest that Biden may be auditioning to become Barack Obama's Secretary of State.
O'Donnell and her campaign team unveiled and repeated the theme "IT'S TIME" -- that is, time for Biden to go.
A nationally-known Republican strategist, Christine O'Donnell has been active in national politics for approximately 20 years. A few of O’Donnell’s appearances on national television can be seen by clicking on the "VIDEOS" section of her website DELETED

Friends of Christine O'Donnell also unveiled "THE BIDEN QUIZ" showing how liberal and controversial Joe Biden really is.
Former FBI Director Louis Freeh, who has settled in Delaware, addressed the convention live and Newt Gingrich sent a televised message. After the Convention endorsed U.S. Representative Mike Castle (R-DE) for re-election to Congress, the Convention turned to contested races for U.S. Senate and for Delaware's Governor and Lt. Governor.
Many Convention speakers expressed optimism with the Delaware GOP having so many good candidates vying for the Convention's endorsement for different positions. In her acceptance speech, Christine O'Donnell pledged to campaign for her opponent Tim Smith in his future campaigns and encouraged Smith to run for office again.
