LOS ANGELES, July 2 /Christian Newswire/ -- Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN), the world's largest religious broadcaster and America's most-watched faith channel, will air the world broadcast premier of the award winning "I Flunked Sunday School" movie on July 7 at 2:00 pm (PST).
"TBN continues to provide the very best in family friendly, faith based films with "I Flunked Sunday School,"" says Susan Zahn, President of WDC Media and TBN's Press Agent. "This film is both unique and entertaining; Unique in that it is a film about the concept of the priesthood of every believer, and entertaining because the main character Lloyd Boyd has a series of adventures trying to help people, some who remembered him from when he flunked Sunday School in his younger days. It's one of those movies to which most of us can relate."
Based on the book of the same name by Ken Bailey and produced by Steve McCurdy, "I Flunked Sunday School" is story of how a man who flunked Sunday School, Lloyd Boyd (played by Kevin Dean) is called by God while he was taking a shower to become a personal preacher. He is not sure what to do or how to do it because he never has figured out what to do with his life, but he follows his heart and leaves his business card all over town. Soon, he starts getting calls from people in need, including the church where he actually flunked Sunday School. As Boyd awkwardly stumbles and bumbles through each situation, the Lord is able to use Boyd to change the lives of those he helps out of humorous and dramatic circumstances.
"It is an incredible gift to see the characters one thought up in the dark escape through the light of a theater projector and slam to life on a huge screen," said Ken Bailey, author of the book I Flunked Sunday School upon which the movie is based. "Steve and I have struggled to honor God, entertain audiences and encourage service. The gift continues as our story moves to broadcast television."
"We didn't know if we would have many opportunities to make a movie so we wanted to be sure that if this was the only evidence we left of our faith, it would be something our children and grandchildren would be proud of," McCurdy added. "What has surprised us is the welcome the material has received from not only the traditional church audience, but also the vast audience of un-churched folks who claim they identify with Lloyd's struggle as well."
"I Flunked Sunday School," a Steve McCurdy/Ken Bailey film, won Best Feature Film out of 59 selected films at the Secret City Film Festival in Oak Ridge, TN in October, 2006. McCurdy, involved in production since the late 1970s, is a pioneer of highly creative, narrative training videotape. He left the commercial world in the mid 1980s to produce and direct an off-Broadway, New York play, "Man Enough," for which he earned wide critical acclaim. In 2003, he met Ken Bailey, and they teamed up to produce "The Neon Fish," an arts and entertainment radio program focused on excellence in artistic Christian expression. Bailey has worked with Dan Rather on "48 Hours," and on programs for the Discovery, History, and Learning channels. "I Flunked Sunday School" is Silk Purse's first feature film.
