PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 10 /Christian Newswire/ -- A national "Call to Artists" is being issued for the 2010 Juried Fine Art & Faith Exhibit, to be held March 5 - March 28, 2010 at White Stone Gallery in Philadelphia, PA. Derek Hooks, owner of White Stone Gallery, says, "This is a way to give exposure to the visual artists hidden in our congregations across the nation." In addition to the exhibition in Philadelphia, accepted works will display online for one year. One piece will be the "Featured Selection" of the exhibit. One artist will receive a year contract as a represented artist with White Stone Gallery.
The submission deadline is January 29, 2010. All entries must be inspired by Christian faith. The exhibit is open to all U.S. residents at least 18 years of age. Eligible entries include two and three dimensional art in all mediums, excluding digital, film, video and installations.
Last year's juried exhibit included a wide variety of mediums and subjects submitted from across the country. The selected pieces ranged from a sculptor's rendition of a Romanian/English Prayer Book to an etching of an injured bird attempting to fly with stones tied to its feet. One of the fan favorites was a three dimensional wall piece made out of found objects called "Fear Not." It depicts a small needle felted bird tagged around its leg with the word "loved," making its nest in a vintage egg separator hanging on the door knob of a worn piece of a red washed door. Pieces sold ranging in price from $450, an abstract pastel called "Transfiguration," to $5000, a textured oil painting of dance shoes over colorful vertical bars called, "Complexion of Time."
Karen Kang of New York City was among the exhibitors last year. Her submissions were abstract sculptures called "Tender Mercies" in granite, and "Heart's Cry" in basalt. She is now a represented artist of White Stone Gallery.
